Номинанты MTV Video Music Awards 2016 были объявлены 26 июля 2016 года в прямой онлайн-трансляции из Нью-Йорка в фейсбуке премии. Лидером по числу номинаций – одиннадцать – стала Бейонсе, за ней следует Адель (восемь упоминаний), затем Дрейк (шесть), Ариана Гранде (пять) и Рианна (четыре). На награды в нескольких категориях также претендуют Джастин Бибер, Кельвин Харрис, Сиа, Крис Браун, Coldplay и другие. В четырех номинациях фигурирует и покойный Дэвид Боуи. Голосование стартовало на сайте сразу после объявления списка.

Вручение наград состоится 28 августа в Madison Square Garden в Нью-Йорке. Ведущие церемонии пока не объявлены.
